Awarded the Queens Nurse title, Shaun has over 20 years’ experience within the NHS in a variety of nursing roles. He is an experienced Registered Nurse/Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)/Independent Prescriber; with strong clinical, operational and strategic leadership experience. He has a detailed understanding of all clinical governance and competency requirements within hospital, general practice, and community urgent care settings.
Shaun’s career has spanned a diverse range of clinical settings, including general practice, accident and emergency, acute medicine, major trauma, hepatorenal, vascular and general surgical services. This experience enables Shaun to provide authoritative insight on nursing proficiency levels regarding tissue viability and wound care, fall risks, safe handling, intravenous cannulation, medication administration, catheterisation and end-of-life care. During his experience within major trauma settings, Shaun has provided nursing care to individuals with life changing injuries, including coordinating care and rehabilitation requirements.
As a qualified Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Shaun is proficient in autonomous clinical practice, managing complete episode of care for those with chronic illness and those with acute undifferentiated presentations, including both adults and children. This includes the prescribing of medications and ordering and interpreting a wide range of diagnostic tests. Shaun is skilled in performing home assessments for patients with acute and chronic injuries and a wide range of disabilities, including traumatic brain injury and Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome.
Shaun compiles detailed and insightful reports on Care, Aids and Equipment needs to promote and maximise independence as well as Liability Breach of Duty Reports and maintains his continuing professional development. He is equipped with a comprehensive understanding of the NMC Code and the scope and competencies required of both a Registered Nurse and an autonomous Advanced Nurse/Clinical Practitioner.
